About BOTOX® and Other Fillers and Injectibles
BOTOX® and other fillers and injectibles are skin rejuvenation cosmetic procedures designed to reduce the signs of aging, offered by expert physicians at UW Health Transformations in Madison, Wisconsin.
The process of aging often leaves its mark on our faces. Sun exposure, laughing, worrying and even smiling can lightly damage the tissues that make up our faces. Our physicians help reverse the signs of aging through the use of injectibles, such as:
  • BOTOX®
  • Juvederm™
  • Restylane®
  • Radiesse™

Each of these injectibles work differently, but they all achieve the same goal – reduce the signs of aging by diminishing frown lines, forehead creases and other facial lines.

Frequently Asked Questions

woman's faceWho is a good candidate for BOTOX® or other injectibles?

Almost anyone may be a good candidate for injectible treatments such as BOTOX® or Restylane®. These cosmetic injectibles help to temporarily reverse the signs of aging by diminishing frown lines, forehead creases and other facial lines. Studies show that BOTOX® may also help to relieve migraine headaches, excessive sweating and muscle spasms in the neck and eyes.

Treatment should not be used if you are pregnant, breastfeeding, have an infection on or near the injection site, or have allergies to any formula ingredients. Individuals with neurological disorders such as ALS, Myasthenia Gravis or Lambert-Eaton syndrome are increased risk of serious side effects of BOTOX® and should consider another alternative.

How do skin injectibles work?

Injectible treatments involve a non-surgical procedure lasting for only a few minutes. During which, tiny amounts of diluted filler are injected into the skin by an ultra fine needle that minimizes discomfort. No anesthesia is necessary.

BOTOX® is a purified protein injection that temporarily reduces or eliminates frown lines, forehead creases, crow’s feet near the eyes and thick bands in the neck. These lines appear over time with everyday muscle activity of the face. Botox injections soften and relax wrinkles by preventing facial muscles from contracting.

Restylane® is a cosmetic dermal filler that corrects moderate to severe facial folds or wrinkles. It is clear gel that contains hyaluronic acid, a natural substance that already exists in the human body.

Are injectibles safe?

Although there are some risks are associated with treatment, injectible treatments are safe for most people.

What should I expect following this procedure?

Injectible treatments are relatively painless and require little to no recovery time following procedures. Full results are usually seen within seven days of treatment.

Common side effects for Restylane include temporary redness or swelling at the site of injection. These should last no longer than seven days. Side effects of BOTOX® treatments may include temporary bruising or headaches in rare cases. Headaches should subside between one and two days.

Four to six months after cosmetic treatment, you will gradually regain muscle action and notice reappearance of creases and wrinkles. Talk to your physician about re-treatment. Although the anti-aging effects of injectibles are not permanent, you may notice that with subsequent treatments, your lines and wrinkles appear less severe even after you regain facial muscle activity. This is because your muscles

Soleen Beauty Center Facial Thread Lift

The Soleen Beauty Center Facial Thread Lift uses sutures or threads that are specifically engineered to grab the surrounding tissue resulting in a lifting of brow, jowls or neck. These sutures have a series of knots covered by special cones that allow the threads to be placed with little to no discomfort.

Thread with Knot and Cone

The cones produce a “foreign body” type of response in the body that causes multiple small fibrotic areas to develop around the cones and underlying knots. This fibrosis helps to fix the threads in place so that the surrounding tissue can be pulled up without discomfort or dimpling. The combination of multiple threads (4 per side for jowls, 2 per side for brow or neck), and the fibrotic reaction make the Soleen Beauty Center Facial Thread Lift a comfortable and effective procedure with immediate results.

The Soleen Beauty Center Facial Thread Lift is a great option for individuals who have experienced the effects of gravity and want to restore the higher, more rounded contour of their cheek, lift their brow or tighten sagging neck skin.
So if you:

  • Desire to restore the youthful anatomy of your face
  • Desire to improve your facial appearance without increasing the volume on it
  • Desire to improve your facial appearance and restore volume with your own fat (Natural Face Restoration)
  • Desire to improve the volume in your cheeks without implants
  • Desire to improve your lower face and neck by reducing the amount of fat in surrounding areas with Lipo-sculpture techniques

For many patients, the Soleen Beauty Center Facial Thread Lift represents an excellent choice for restoring a more youthful facial appearance.

Soleen Beauty Center Facial Thread Lift Procedure Detail

The procedure begins with accurate marking of your face in order to attain optimal position all of the sutures.

Next, photos are taken and you will be given a mild sedative and pain medicine. You are taken to the operating room and positioned lying on your back with your head slightly elevated. Monitors are placed and initial readings recorded to insure adequate monitoring. Your heart rate, oxygen level, ECG tracing and blood pressure are all monitored continuously throughout the procedure. The face and neck area are prepped and draped using sterile technique. Local anesthesia will be injected into the area lateral to your temple for mid-face lift, at your hairline above the brows for brow lift and behind your ears for neck lift as well as at all exit points and along the planned path of the suture.A small incision is made in the temple, above the brow in the hairline or behind your ear. All incisions will be ½ inch or about 1cm.

The threads are then placed under the skin and along the marking lines. The threads pass through the fatty tissue above the muscle and below the skin. After all sutures are placed the face or neck are smoothed to assure optimal placement and to avoid dimpling. The sutures may be placed into mesh that had previously been attached to the fascia in the temple and behind your ear or directly into the fascia for the brow. The sutures are then tied together and pull the skin upwards for an immediate lift. The skin is then closed and bandaged and after monitoring you for another 30 minutes, you are allowed to go home. All patients should have someone pick them up at MedSpa 21 and should not plan to drive themselves home.

A second procedure can be performed several years later to further correct the effects of gravity.. Once you arrive at MedSpa 21, your photo will be taken and you will be given medication to help you relax and for pain. All monitors will be placed on you as before and initial readings taken. You will be lying on your back as in the first procedure with your head slightly elevated. Once your skin is prepped in the necessary areas, local anesthesia is injected in the scar from the first surgery so that it can be completely removed by excision. The sutures are then elevated, the knots released and the sutures tied down more tightly to enhance the previous lift and regain the correction that was lost with time. The skin is then closed and bandaged. You will be monitored for 30 minutes after the procedure and allowed to go home with a previously arranged driver.

The Soleen Beauty Center Facial Thread Lift has little downtime and few restrictions on activity. Dr. Marino recommends that you refrain from strenuous activity for a full week and eat soft foods only for the first week.

Regular daily activities other than strenuous exercise can be resumed the next day. You can shower after 24 hours, but avoid a bath or swimming until the skin is completely closed, typically in 3-4 days and occasionally longer. Return to MedSpa 21 in 5-7 days for removal of the skin staples used to close the skin.

Soleen Beauty Center facial Thread Lift can be completed alone but the results may be better when combined with certain procedures including:

Liposuction of the lower face and neck with particular sculpturing of the jowls to enhance the lower face.

Liposuction with fat transfer to the face. This is best completed about 4 weeks prior to the thread lift rather than on the same day.

Lipo EX of the neck and lower face. Lipo EX is an exceptional RF treatment that helps to tighten and thereby lift the neck and lower face by inducing skin tightening. It is the perfect adjunct to the Soleen Beauty Center Facial Thread Lift.

The Soleen Beauty Center Facial Thread Lift has been met with excellent patient satisfaction and safety both in the United States and overseas. Part of the reason for the great success has to do with extensive studies using ultrasound and dynamic monitoring to ensure optimal placement for the desired lift and to eliminate any discomfort. The studies were so well done that the current technique has allowed for beautiful results with little risk of any lasting discomfort and the research in this manner continued to confirm that patients with the Soleen Beauty Center Sutures placed in the face and neck had the desired change in contour with no irregularity and no discomfort.

The Soleen Beauty Center Facial Thread Lift is performed using local anesthesia in an operating room. Currently the number of physicians in the United States performing the procedure is limited. Physicians are available in California, New York and now Texas to perform the procedure.

MedSpa 21 whose medical director is Dr. Barbara Marino is proud to be one of the first practices outside of California and New York to perform the procedure and one of the first in Houston.

Good candidates for the Soleen Beauty Center Facial Thread Lift are individuals with the following characteristics:

  • Desire to restore the more shapely youthful facial contour by reducing hyper-functional lines and jowls.
  • Desire a volume increase (in conjunction with contouring of the lower face and neck and with fat transfer to the face).
  • Have experienced the effects of gravity causing “sagging” and want the more youthful, lifted facial appearance.
  • Have had other cosmetic procedures and desire an enhanced appearance on the face and neck.
  • Have no uncontrolled chronic medical conditions such as diabetes or hypertension. Individuals currently taking medication or supplements that control any underlying health conditions are still good candidates for this procedure.
  • Are within 20% of their ideal body weight with few exceptions.

If you are interested in the Soleen Beauty Center Facial Thread Lift, but think you may not be a good candidate, it is best to schedule an appointment and allow Dr. Marino to guide your decision to do what is optimal for you.

Injection of  mesenchymal stem cells (Stem Cell Therapy) has been shown effective in patients as a stand alone treatment and now as a remarkable treatment that can rebuild the meniscus tissue of the knee as discussed in the previous article.  In yesterday’s article we discussed Stem Cell Therapy, Platelet Rich Plasma Therapy, and Dextrose Prolotherapy as part of a Comprehensive Prolotherapy program that takes an aggressive approach to healing the problems of osteoarthritis and cartilage deterioratioon.. As such, therapies are combined because empirically, therapies in combination are shown to be more effective in many cases than therapies as stand alone options.

Stem cell and PRP therapy for knee repair

Recent research discussed the beneficial effects of stem cell injections. Doctors in Iran followed six women whose MRIs suggested advanced knee osteoarthritis. The knee osteoarthritis was so severe that knee replacement surgery was recommended. The women, average age 54, received a stem cell treatment with the stem cells derived from their bone marrow. The results?

“During a one-year follow-up period, we found no local or systemic adverse events. All patients were partly satisfied with the results of the study. Knee Pain, functional status of the knee, and walking distance tended to be improved up to six months post-injection, after which pain appeared to be slightly increased and patients’ walking abilities slightly decreased. Comparison of magnetic resonance images (MRI) at baseline and six months post-stem cell injection displayed an increase in cartilage thickness, extension of the repair tissue over the subchondral bone and a considerable decrease in the size of edematous subchondral patches in three out of six patients.”1

Platelet Rich Plasma Therapy for Knee Osteoarthritis

It is easy to speculate that had the treatments been more aggressive, a more positive result would have been achieved. Platelet Rich Plasma Therapy as a stand alone treatment has already shown very positive results in numerous studies.

Combining stems cells with Platelet Rich Plasma Therapy as a means to accelerate tissue regeneration in advanced degeneration has been the subject of numerous animal and human studies. The initial findings have been very positive.2,3,4

How does PRP enhance stem cell treatments?

Platelet Rich Plasma (PRP) has the ability to both increase stem cells and guide them in healing. In initial findings, PRP assisted stem cells in “figuring out” what they needed to be – whether a cartilage cell, or a bone cell, or a collagen cell for ligaments and tendons. Here is what the science says: “Platelet-rich plasma has recently emerged as a potential biologic tool to treat acute and chronic tendon disorders. The regenerative potential of PRP is based on the release of growth factors that occurs with platelet rupture. Its autologous nature [the recipient and donor are one and the same person] gives it a significant advantage in tissue engineering applications.”5 So the platelets are already attuned to provide a healing environment or “scaffold” to build on. In the research cited, results confirmed that PRP enhances MSC stem cell proliferation and suggested that PRP causes chondrogenic differentiation of MSC in vitro – the platelets told the stem cells what to do.

Growth Factors in Cartilage Regeneration

Growth factors or PROLIFERANTS (Prolotherapy is so called because of its able to proliferate growth factors) act when tissue is injured. In the cause of chronic pain caused by joint degeneration, PRP and Prolotherapy release substances that activate the healing response. (See cartilage repair) The platelets themselves secrete a variety of cytokines (messenger cells that regulate various inflammatory responses), including adhesive proteins and growth factors such as platelet-derived growth factor, transforming growth factor beta, vascular endothelial growth factor, basic fibroblast growth factor, Insulin-like growth factor-1 (IGF-1), and epidermal growth factor.

When we look at our face in the mirror, we are often confronted with a tired face looking back at us, it’s not the way we feel inside, yet time and our natural ageing process conspires to give us these tired eyes and a droopy look, especially around our neck, cheeks, eyes and jowels.

Radio frequency is the latest technology designed specifically to treat areas of the face and body areas in need of rejuvenation.
RF FaceLifter treatment uses unipolar and bipolar radio frequency modalities to heat our subcutaneous dermal tissue using various hand pieces emitting RF waves. This technology causes the contraction of your existing collagen fibres, encouraging fibroblast migration and promotes new collagen growth that helps to tighten and improve the outer architecture of the skin. In short we help stem and reverse the natural ageing process of your skin.

You’ll see the lifting effect and feel how your skin becomes tighter, smoother, and more elastic.
There is no down time (apart from the treatment time itself) and minimal discomfort. It is a walk-in walk-out procedure which takes approximately 20 to 30 minutes.

What can a course of RF Face Lift treatments do for me?

The goal of the radio frequency face lift is to restore a more youthful look by helping to reverse the signs of ageing and gravity. The treatment achieves:

  • The tightening and smoothing of skin resulting in a reduced appearance of fine lines
    and wrinkles.
  • The tightening of sagging skin around the jowls and neck.
  • A reduction in the appearance of double chins.
  • Improvement of skin laxity.
  • A noticeable improvement in skin tone.

Is this treatment right for me?

Every woman or man who would like their face to look younger or smoother without surgery is a candidate for this treatment. A person of practically any age can receive the treatment. Some clients have obvious ageing from mid 30s others do better with deeper lines and laxity not evident till the fifties. There is an advantage to starting a little younger (the forties) and planning an annual budget for maintenance.

What happens during this treatment?

Before the treatment starts the treatment area is lightly coated in oil to make the treatment more comfortable and to increase the hand pieces surface contact with the skin.

There is little discomfort during or after RF Face Lift treatment. There is a definite feeling of warmth in the skin at the area being treated. The hand piece used in treatment has it’s own cooling module to help keep the treatment comfortable and the operator can cool the skin immediately when required.

How many treatments are required and how long are they?

We recommend a course of anywhere between 3 to 8 treatments (depending on the areas treated and your skins reaction to the treatment) for the most beneficial results. We also recommend a maintenance treatment approximately every 6 months after your initial treatment course to maintain the results.

How long before I see the results of the treatment?

Many clients have reported changes early in their course after 2 or even 1 radio frequency treatments but it is usual to have 4-6 fortnightly treatments before the results start to manifest.

Almost everyone wants to look younger and more appealing. However, as you age, fine lines, wrinkles and age spots begin to appear. Getting a face lift is one of the many options for regaining that youthful look. Different techniques are employed in facelifting procedures to remove wrinkles and fine lines. One such technique is a thermage face lift. This is becoming the most common method sought out by people interested in looking younger without going under the knife.

What is Thermage Face Lift?

Thermage face lift is a non-invasive technique, and therefore it does not involve any surgery or incision on the face of the person. This technique involves stimulating collagen growth in the problem areas on the face or any other part of the body. Collagen inhibits skin laxity and growing of wrinkles, thus making you look younger. Stimulation of collagen growth occurs when the problem areas are heated. Thermage face lift treatment lasts for about an hour, and the minor side-effects will disappear after a few days.

Procedure

  • Takes about an hour to perform
  • Radio waves are used to provide heat to the collagen
  • When heated, the protein in the collagen contracts, resulting in tightening
  • To prevent other areas from heating, cooling is also done

The overall experience is similar to mild pinching or heating. If you are interested in opting for this technique, you must consult a good dermatologist or a plastic surgeon. They can guide you through the whole procedure, and you can get them to clarify all your doubts, especially those related to side effects such as redness, blistering, peeling, swelling, and so on.

Before and After Effects

There are several people who have benefited from the thermage face lift technique. However, it is always best to ask your doctor to show you thermage face lift before and after pictures, so that you have a more realistic idea of what to expect. You could also try and get in touch with someone who has undergone the procedure as they will be able to give you an honest opinion.

•  Increases blood flow through the treated area
•  Repairs connective tissue
•  Tightens and tones treated tissue
•  Boosts natural production of skin cells
•  Encourages collagen production
•  Triggers the body’s natural chemicals to encourage anti-ageing of the skin to take place
•  Stimulates energy production
•  Fat and circumference reduction
•  Cellulite Reduction & Body Shaping
•  Skin tightening & Stretch Mark removal
•  Non – Surgical, no down time, safe, comfortable & pain free
•  Long lasting results

Do I need to do anything to prepare for the treatment?
Make the most of your treatment by eating healthy and exercising on the day of the treatment. It is essential that on the day of the treatment you eat only vegetables, salads and very lean protein (e.g. fish, chicken/turkey breast etc.) in order to burn the released fat and make the most of your treatment.
Any type of starch (including the so-called “good carbs” such as brown rice, brown bread, potatoes, pasta etc.), sugary food and drinks (such as cakes, croissants, muffins, coffee/tea with sugar or honey etc.), fruits (including fruit juices, carrot juice and smoothies), alcohol, and fat of any kind (including oils, nuts, seeds and cheese) are not allowed on the day of the treatment, to prevent the body from re-depositing excess fat back into the fat cells. Furthermore, vigorous exercise before or after the treatment is ideal for even more pronounced results.

Before and after treatment:
•  Drink at least 2 liters of water both before and the day after your treatment
•  Do not drink ANY alcohol or caffeine the day of, as well as 48 hours after your treatment
•  Use Dry Skin Brushing daily to stimulate lymph movement
•  Avoid hot showers, spas and saunas directly following treatment
•  Following treatment, it is recommended to do at least 20 minutes of brisk exercise to stimulate lymph movement for the best results

Treatments use a holistic approach to get the best results.  When these measures of diet, exercise, and Ultrasound Cavitation sessions are followed you will achieve better results than any one measure used alone.

Laser Lipo

I-lipo is the cutting-edge in laser lipolysis, offering you a way to achieve inch loss and body contouring with no pain, no needles and no down time. The application is a painless and safe low level laser diode system that can be used on all skin types and body areas. Independent clinical studies have shown i-lipo results to be comparable to results achieved by liposuction in some cases. Ultrasound imagery shows up to a 30% reduction in the fat layer depth after just one treatment, while additional treatments improve results even further. Results can be seen immediately after each treatment as the fat cell contents are released. Light exercise after your treatment will help accelerate the removal of the released fat. I-lipo can target fat reduction in specific problem areas. By positioning the laser pads on target areas such as the chin, upper arms, abdomen, or thighs, fat can be broken down and removed specifically from those areas. This offers a large advantage over diet and exercise, which can reduce overall body fat, but cannot shape individual areas.

Benefits of treatment:
•  Can target fat reduction in specific areas of the body, including arms, stomach, thighs, knees, calves, etc.
•  In general, patients see 1-3 inches lost per session
•  Most patients feel nothing but a slight warming of the pads, leading to a comfortable experience
•  Stimulates energy production
•  Fat and circumference reduction
•  Cellulite Reduction & Body Shaping
•  Non – Surgical, no down time, safe, comfortable & pain free
•  Long lasting results

Before and after treatment:
•  Drink at least 2 liters of water both before and the day after your treatment
•  Do not drink ANY alcohol or caffeine the day of, as well as 48 hours after your treatment
•  Following treatment, it is recommended to do at least 20 minutes of brisk exercise to stimulate lymph movement for the best results

Lymphatic Drainage Massage

The lymph-drainage massage helps the body eliminate the liquids and waste produced by the cavitation treatment through the lymph nodes. The lymph-drainage treatment is the only thing that can visibly reduce the volume of the treated areas. It is a highly recommended procedure after undergoing an ultrasound cavitation treatment.

Waxing

Waxing Facts:
Warm waxing is more effective than cold waxing, because the heat from the wax causes the skin’s pores to open, and the hairs are then more easily pulled from their roots resulting in a much more effective hair removal procedure. Hair is quickly removed by smearing the wax and then pulling, providing quick and effective hair removal.

Contraindications:
Not recommended for anyone currently using retina A, Accutane or other exfoliating products.

It is estimated that close to 30% of the Arab people has some sort of tattoo. Eventually, as many as 70% of individuals with tattoos may want to have their tattoos removed.

For those who have an unwanted body design, laser tattoo removal techniques can eliminate or lighten your tattoo with minimal side effects.

Lasers remove tattoos by breaking up the pigment colors with a high-intensity light beam. Black tattoo pigment absorbs all laser wavelengths, making it the easiest to treat. Other colors, such as red, selectively absorb green laser light. Various colors can only be treated by selected lasers based upon the pigment color.

What are the benefits of laser tattoo removal?

Because each tattoo is unique, removal techniques must be tailored to suit each individual case.

In the past, tattoos could be removed by a variety of surgical methods but the scars were more unsightly than the tattoo itself.

Tattoo removal by laser is a non-surgical techniques that leaves no scars. In addition, tattoos that have not been effectively removed by other treatments or through home remedies may respond well to laser therapy, providing the prior treatments did not result in excessive scarring.

How is the laser tattoo removal performed?

Treatment with the laser varies from patient to patient depending on the age, size, and type of tattoo, amateur or professional. The color of the patient’s skin, as well as the depth to which the tattoo pigment extends, will also affect the removal technique.

Depending on the size and color of your tattoo, the number of treatments will vary. Your tattoo may be removed in 4 to 6 sessions, although many more sessions might be necessary.

Most patients do not require any anesthesia. The patient wears protective eye shields. The skin’s reaction to the laser is tested to determine the most effective energy for treatment.

The treatment itself consists of placing a hand piece against the surface of the skin and activating the laser light. As many patients describe it, each pulse feels like a grease splatter or the snapping of a rubber band against the skin. Immediately following treatment, an ice pack is applied to soothe the treated area. The patient will then be asked to apply a topical antibiotic cream or ointment. The treated area should also be covered with a sun block when out in the sun.

Smaller tattoos require fewer pulses, while larger ones require more. In either case, the tattoo requires several treatments and multiple visits. After each treatment, the tattoo should become progressively lighter.
What are the possible side effects?

Incomplete pigment removal is relatively common as some colors of tattoo dye resist laser removal and some pigment is too deep for current lasers. There is a slight chance that the treatment can leave you with a permanent scar.

You may also risk hypopigmentation, where the treated skin is paler than surrounding skin, or hyperpigmentation, where the treated skin is darker than surrounding skin.

Cosmetic tattoos like lip liner, eye liner, and eyebrows may darken following treatment with tattoo removal lasers. Further treatment of the darkened tattoos usually results in fading.
Laser tattoo removal should not be performed on patients with the following conditions:
– a history of keloid scarring
– active infection or a history of herpes simplex in the treatment area
– hypersensitivity to bleaching agents

How Much LASER tattoo removal Typically Cost?

Although price is a factor when deciding on surgery, the most important factor is that you feel you are getting a good quality, natural-looking result from the procedure.

LASER tattoo removal costs are variable according to the treated area, color of tattoo and the used device. Usually the cost is ranging from 100 to 1500 U.S. dollars per area per session. Many different lasers are used in dermatology, cosmetic surgery, ophthamology, and other areas of medicine. Sorting through the brand names, platforms, wavelengths, and various uses can sometimes be overwhelming, so learning the basics about popular laser treatment is a good place to start your research.

Laser skin resurfacing

Laser resurfacing is a laser treatment frequently performed to rejuvenate skin on the face and neck. Many people seek laser resurfacing to decrease wrinkles, sun damage, and acne scars, to achieve mild skin tightening, and to improve overall skin texture.
Most doctors recommend ablative CO2 or Erbium Yag lasers for maximum skin resurfacing results, while moderate results with fewer risks and less downtime may be achieved with non-ablative lasers, such as Nd:Yag and pulsed-dye lasers.
Popular lasers used for skin resurfacing include:

  • Fraxel Restore
  • Fraxel Repair
  • Active FX

Laser hair removal

Not only can laser treatment be used for skin rejuvenation, it can also be used to permanently reduce hair growth on nearly any body area.
Laser hair removal is commonly performed to reduce unwanted or excessive facial and body hair on both men and women, but it requires a multiple treatments to be effective and doesn’t work well for blonde or gray hair.
Be sure to choose your doctor carefully, as choosing an unqualified or inexperienced laser hair removal practitioner could result in burns, especially if the wrong laser is used on people with darker skin.
Popular lasers used for hair removal include:

  • Lightsheer laser
  • GentleLASE

Laser vein treatment

Treatment for varicose veins and spider veins may be performed with endovenous laser treatment, or EVLT. In addition to improving the appearance of body areas commonly affected by varicose or spider veins, such as the legs, vein treatment can help treat venous insufficiency, a potentially serious disease.
Possible side effects of laser vein treatment include redness, swelling, hyperpigmentation, and bruising.
Laser treatment isn’t the only way to correct vein problems. Sclerotherapy, VNUS Closure radiofrequency treatment, surgery, and light therapy may also be performed to treat veins.

Laser tattoo removal

Laser treatment is often utilized to remove or fade tattoos, although success of treatment depends largely on the size and color of treated tattoos.
For tattoo removal, different laser devices and wavelengths are used to break up tattoo pigment into small pieces. The body’s immune system then expels the fragments of tattoo pigment, resulting in a removed or faded tattoo. Blue and black pigments are the easiest to remove, while yellow and green pigments are the most difficult.
Typically, Q-switched Ruby, Alexandrite, and Nd:Yag lasers are preferred for tattoo removal and usually carry a low risk of causing scarring. However, laser tattoo removal may be painful, and infection, hyperpigmentation, and hypopigmentation are possible side effects.

Light therapy

Although light therapy is often not performed using lasers, many refer to light therapy as a sort of laser treatment. Light therapy can be used for hair removal and to treat redness, veins, acne, skin pigmentation issues, such as age spots and melasma, and a multitude of skin conditions, such as rosacea and psoriasis.
Popular light therapies include:

  • IPL
  • LED treatment

LASER Hair removal (Epilation by LASER) laser

What is Epilation by laser? laser for hair removal

Unwanted hair is a common problem in women and men. Shaving, plucking, waxing, tweezing and depilatory creams provide temporary solutions that are inconvenient, irritating, messy and only be carried out on relatively small areas. Electrolysis is time consuming, sometimes painful, and is useful only in removing hair from small areas. The removal of excess facial, leg, underarm, chest and back hair has become increasingly more popular as part of the standard grooming and hygiene process. This demand for proven methods of hair removal has brought about many new advances and improvements in effective hair removal.

Laser hair removal treatment can be used to permanently treat and remove small and large areas of unwanted hair from the body. Laser and light-based methods, sometimes called phototricholysis or photoepilation, are now most commonly referred to collectively as “laser hair removal”.

Many studies of laser hair removal methods, safety, and efficacy have been published. Best results occur in those with light skin and dark hair, and hair removal works better on coarse hair rather than fine hair.

What Are The Benefits Of LASER hair removal?

Reasons for removing hair are:
1) Cultural and sexual aspects                    2) For religious reasons
3) Medical reasons                                    4) Male-to-female gender reassignment
5) In military institutions                           6) Sporting reasons

Women frequently experience this condition on the face, especially the upper lip or eyebrow area, in the bikini area, under the arms or on the legs.

Men often wish to rid themselves of hair on their back or chest. They too may have unwanted hair between their eyebrows or on other parts of their face.

– The best results for hair removal have been achieved on darker, finer hair but other factors may influence the treatment process and are generally best evaluated and discussed in person.

– The number of treatments required for each area depends upon your skin, hair coloring and coarseness of the hair.

– Electrolysis often requires years of treatments at regular intervals. In contrast, laser reaches hundreds of hair follicles at a time, effectively treating an area in just seconds that would take over an hour with electrolysis.

The Idea and Mechanism of Laser Hair Removal!

Hair does not come in any one size or type. Follicles in different parts of the body produce differing types of hair. Hair can grow in thick, bushy patches or in long thin strands. In addition, hair is produced in follicles that can be found at different depths and densities – as close to the skin’s surface as a millimeter or as deep as five millimeters or more. Until recently, this great variety in hair types and body locations made long-lasting hair removal a significant challenge.life cycle of hair

The life cycle of human hair pass through three phases:

– The first phase “Anagen”: growth and lasts 2 to 6 years;
– The second phase “Catagen”: transition from active and resting phases and lasts 1 to 2 weeks;
– The third phase “Telegen”: resting and lasts 5 to 6 weeks in active follicles and many years in inactivated follicles.

The hair you can see is either in its active anagen growth cycle (still attached to the hair follicle) or in its inactive catagen phase (already separated from the follicle). The laser targets the hair you can see, meaning it will remove both the active and inactive hairs. Hair in an active growth cycle will not grow back as the laser will destroy the hair follicle beneath the skin. Inactive hair will be removed; however, it will grow back as the follicle is still intact. As the hair moves through its cycles, repeated sessions are necessary to treat the follicles when they enter the growth phase. To see long-term results, you can expect at least 3 treatments with the laser. laser hair removal

The primary principle behind laser hair removal is selective photothermolysis (SPTL). Lasers can cause localized damage by selectively heating dark target matter, (melanin), in the area that causes hair growth, (the follicle), while not heating the rest of the skin. Light is absorbed by dark objects, so laser energy can be absorbed by dark material in the skin (but with much more speed and intensity). This dark target matter, or chromophore, can be naturally-occurring or artificially introduced.

Melanin occurs naturally in the skin (it gives skin and hair its color). There are two types of melanin in hair:
– eumelanin (which gives hair brown or black color)
– pheomelanin (which gives hair blonde or red color).

Because of the selective absorption of photons of laser light, only black or brown hair can be removed. Laser works best with dark coarse hair. Light skin and dark hair are an ideal combination, but new lasers are now able to target dark black hair even in patients with dark skin.

What types of Light and Laser hair removal technology exist?

There are many different types of laser hair removal technology used by equipment manufacturers. Each type of laser technology is suitable for particular types of people. The following is a brief insight into the different types of laser hair removal systems available along with the pros and cons of each.

A- Alexandrite Laser: The long-pulse alexandrite laser has the ability to penetrate deeply into the dermis. The resultant heat build up in the hair shafts disables the hair follicles in the active growth phase which enables it to achieve effective laser hair removal.
Specifications: types of laser
+ Wavelength: 755 nm
+ Pulse width: 2-20 ms
+ Fluence: 10-40 m/cm²
+ Spot size: 5-10 mm
Devices available: Apogee-40, EpiTouch Alex, GentleLASE
Disadvantages:
– Hair removal is short term.
– Occurrence of side effects in 2% of dark colored patients.

B- Diode Laser: Diode lasers are very effective. Laser production is triggered by small diodes or semiconductors that are arranged together to produce light beam. The diode laser has a longer wavelength than other types of lasers, which may improve treatment results on darker skin types.
Specifications:
+ Wavelength: 800-810 nm
+ Pulse width: 5-30 ms
+ Fluence: 10-40 m/cm²
+ Spot size: 9 mm
Devices available: Apex-800 Iriderm, LaserLite, SLP100, EpiStar, MeDioStar diode laser, Do-it-yourself Rio LAHR .
Advantages:
– Longer wavelength results in better performance on darker skin types.
– Deep penetration & targeting of deep hair follicles.
Disadvantages:
– Diode lasers have been linked with the onset of urticaria in some patients. It’s a severe allergic skin reaction similar to hives and can be managed by anti-allergic drug therapy.

C- Q-Switched Nd:YAG Laser: This laser has the ability to deliver two different wave lengths of light. The first is an infrared light used for deep penetration. This wavelength is used to get to deeper into hair follicles. The other wavelength, a green light, is used for treating hair follicles closer to the surface of the skin. In both cases, the Q-switching device emits rapid bursts of laser light to the area being treated.
Specifications:
+ Wavelength: 1064 nm
+ Pulse width: 10-50 ms
+ Fluence: 20-100 m/cm²
+ Spot size: 3-5 mm
Devices available: Carbon suspension Q-switched lasers SoftLight, Q-switched Nd: YAG laser MedLite IV, Long-pulsed Nd:YAG lasers
Advantages:
– Provides surface cooling & epidermal protection due to surface cooling and longer pulse duration of these lasers.
– Long term studies show that these laser systems can achieve a significant delay in hair regrowth.
– Nd: YAG 1064 nm system may be best for darkly pigmented people.
Disadvantages:
– The waxing and carbon lotion application is cumbersome.
– No clinical data to support that added benefits are achieved when pre-treatment waxing or carbon suspension is used.
– Not proven effective for long-term results.

D- Ruby Laser: This laser emits a red colored beam which targets the melanin inside hair shafts and adjoining hair follicles. Due to their specific melanin targeting features these are best suited for individuals having light skin and dark hairs.
Specifications:
+ Wavelength: 694 nm
+ Pulse width: 0.85-3 ms
+ Fluence: 5-40 m/cm²
+ Spot size: 3-10 mm
Devices Available: Normal mode, 694-nm ruby lasers: E2000, EpiPulse Ruby, RubyStar.
Advantages:
– Long term hair removal is achieved.
– The E2000 series is equipped with sapphire cooled hand piece Epiwand which serves as epidermal coolant . Other devices are also equipped with in built cooling devices which minimize the chances of burns & other laser hair removal side effects.

E- IPL (Intense Pulsed Light): is a technology aimed at producing light of high intensity during a very short period of time. It involves specific lamps together with capacitors whose rapid discharge provides the high energy required.
Specifications:
+ Wavelength: SR: 560 – 1200 nm HR: 690 – 1200 nm
+ Pulse width: 20—150 ms
+ Fluence: 20-50 m/cm²
+ Spot size: 16×57 mm
Devices Available: .
Advantages:
– Some consumers have experienced long-lasting hair removal or permanent hair reduction.
– Considered safe if performed properly.
– Useful for large areas such as backs or legs.
– Regrowth can come back lighter in color or finer in texture.
Disadvantages:
– Response rates have not been established.
– Not as effective on unpigmented hairs and red or blonde hair.
– Must be used very cautiously on darker skin tones or on consumers who tan themselves.
– Improper treatment can cause burns, skin discoloration lasting several months, or patchy/grid-like regrowth.
– Some consumers do not respond to treatment.

How is Laser Hair Removal performed?

– Do not wax, pluck, or have electrolysis for at least four weeks prior to treatment or between laser treatments as the hair follicle needs to be in place for optimal results.

– Please shave 24 to 48 hours prior to your scheduled treatment time.

– The procedure can take as little as 10 minutes or up to several hours depending on the area(s) treated.

– A local anesthetic cream will be applied on the treated area(s).

– You will then be given safety eye wear to protect your eyes during the procedure from the intense laser light.

– During the procedure, the laser hand piece cools and soothes as it glides over your skin. When the pulse is delivered, clients can sometimes experience a mild pinching or stinging sensation, however our innovative cooling system keeps this to a minimum.

– Most treatments require 4-6 sessions with a month interval for permanent hair removal in any one area. The procedure may be repeated at yearly intervals.

What is after?

– Immediately following your laser treatment, the area may appear a bit red. A cool compress and moisturizing lotion is applied.

– Treated areas should be washed twice a day with cool water and a mild soap. Use specific lotion twice daily to treated areas for 3 to 5 days or until healing is complete.

– Treated areas should be protected from direct exposure to sunlight. Sunscreen with SPF greater than 15 should be used at all times on the treated areas.

– Hair will begin to fall out of the follicles within the next week.

Are there any risks associated with Laser Hair Removal?

Laser hair removal is a safe procedure if carried out by an experienced person. Possible complications include:

– darkening or lightening of the treated skin
– burning/blistering of the treated skin
– Since darker skin is more susceptible to changes in pigment, tanning before laser hair removal should be avoided.

Laser hair removal should not be performed on patients with the following conditions:
– a history of keloid scarring
– active infection or a history of herpes simplex in the treatment area
– hypersensitivity to bleaching agents
– use of Accutane within the preceding 6 months

How Much LASER hair removal Typically Cost?

Although price is a factor when deciding on surgery, the most important factor is that you feel you are getting a good quality, natural-looking result from the procedure.

LASER hair removal costs are variable according to the treated area, density of hair and the used device. Usually the cost is ranging from 100 to 1500 U.S. dollars per area per session. When dealing with costs, you also need to take into consideration the fact that the procedure need to be repeated. Most medical insurance providers do not cover the procedure.

Recent scientific research and technology provides the medical community with new understandings of wound and tissue healing. As a result of these scientific studies, we know PRP is an all-natural medical procedure performed in physicians offices for hair loss or conditions causing hair thinning. In a recent study published in Dermatologic Surgery, physicians in Korea published data supporting the clinical application of PRP in hair restoration.

HOW DOES PRP WORK?

Human blood contains mesenchymal stem cells and autologous blood products that contain essential and specific growth factors that assist in tissue regeneration and healing. Published medical literature from Europe and the United States confirms the safety and use of PRP therapy. PRP therapy has established itself to be effective as a medical treatment modality in the specialty fields of oral surgery, neurosurgery, plastic and cosmetic surgery, sports medicine and orthopedics. It has been used extensively in these specialties for the last two decades with generally positive outcomes and success. In the field of hair restoration, existing evidence demonstrates PRP therapy as a promising treatment option to promote hair growth.

While PRP is in the early stages of scientific research in hair restoration, PRP is not meant to replace current FDA approved therapies such as DHT blockers and Minoxidil. but it is a promising non-surgical therapeutic option for those patients with hair loss.

HOW DO YOU PERFORM THE PROCEDURE?

Blood is drawn in our office as though you are having routine blood testing at your primary care physician’s office. The blood is spun in a centrifuge and the PRP is separated and removed from the rest of the blood.

The PRP is taken from your body and is specially prepared by spinning down the blood cells to a high concentration. We are proud to use the state of the art AutoloGel system technology, designed by Cytomedix. After centrifugation, the platelets and other vital growth proteins raise to the top of the tube. Under a topical anesthesia, a special micro needling roller device is used to stimulate the dermis of the scalp. This micro needling stimulation causes microtrauma to the dermis that induces other healing and growth repair cells into action. The highly concentrated platelet rich plasma (PRP) is then injected into the scalp and topically.

The PRP contains many growth factors that stimulate the hair follicle’s growth. PRP can be used preoperatively, intraoperatively, or post operatively. Some patient’s chose to have PRP performed every three (3) to four (4) months as early data suggests regular or semiannual PRP treatments can stimulate hair growth.

THE SCIENCE OF PRP

PRP contains special cells called Platelets, that can cause growth of the hair follicles by theoretically stimulating the stem cells located in the Dermal Papilla as well as other structures of the hair follicle These special Platelet cells promotes healing, accelerates the rate and degree of tissue healing and regeneration, response of the body to injury, and formation of new cellular growth. The primary purpose of using PRP in hair restoration is to stimulate inactive or newly implanted hair follicles into an active growth phase.

Inside the Platelets are many intracellular structures such as glycogen, lysosomes and alpha granules. These granules within the PRP contain clotting and growth factors that are eventually released during the healing and repair process.

PRP specific cells that causes hair growth include:

  • Platelet-Derived Growth Factor (PDGF)—promotes blood vessel growth, cell replication, skin formation;
  • Transforming Growth-Factor-Beta (TGF-b)—promotes growth of matrix between cells, bone metabolism;
  • Vascular Endothelial Growth Factor (VEGF)—promotes blood vessel formation;
  • Epidermal Growth Factor (EGF)—promotes cell growth and differentiation, blood vessel formation, collagen formation;
  • Fibroblast Growth Factor-2 (FGF-2)—promotes growth of specialized cells and blood vessel formation; and,
  • Insulin Like Growth Factor – (IGF)—a regulator of normal physiology in nearly every type of cell in the body.

DOES PRP WORK?

While individual results vary and no guarantees of success can be made, preliminary studies indicate many patients respond to PRP therapy. Some hair restoration physicians apply PRP to the scalp for those patients who are not surgical candidates every three (3) to four (4) months. Other protocols will use PRP before or during surgery to insure graft survivability.

PRP is an emerging non surgical based therapy for natural stimulation for thinning hair. Larger clinical studies are pending but the current medical literature contains numerous positive results. Although a few controlled studies exist, anecdotal and case reports are the primary sources reflecting success with PRP therapy.

WHO SHOULD NOT HAVE PRP TREATMENT?

Patients with history of heavy smoking, drug and alcohol use. Medical diagnosies such as platelet dysfunction syndromes, thrombocytopenias, hypofibrinogenaemia, hemodynamic instability, sepsis, acute and chronic Infections, chronic liver disease, anti-coagulation therapy, chronic skin diseases or cancer, metabolic and systemic disorders.

IS PRP FOR ME?

PRP has been used successfully in other medical and surgical disciplines for many years. The decision to use PRP is a personal decision and should be made after careful research, consideration and consultation with a physician. PRP is safe and natural because the procedure concentrates the good cells from your own body directly back into the area where it is needed. There is absolutely no chance of getting a blood infection from another human being. PRP involves using your own cells and it will not be rejected by your immune system.

Clinical trials are not complete and medical data is not yet published to determine the effectiveness of PRP therapy in hair restoration. PRP should not be considered a “cure” for hair loss and no guarantee can be made about its individual effectiveness. No claim of PRP efficacy in promoting hair growth can be made because there is no FDA approval that would allow such claims to be made.

CAN I USE OTHER MEDICAL THERAPIES CONCURRENTLY?

Absolutely. In fact, we encourage it and prescribe PRP therapy as a compliment to a nonsurgical approach for those patients who are not eligible for surgery or who want to delay hair restoration surgery. As a non-surgical treatment option, we recommend PRP therapy along with Minoxidil and DHT blockers or for those patients who can not tolerate or have side effects with these medications.

CONCLUSION

In summary, PRP therapy offers a promising alternative for natural hair growth for those patients who are not candidates for surgery. It also is a beneficial therapy for surgical patients who want PRP therapy as a complimentary procedure at the same time hair restoration surgery with either automated FUE or the STRIP procedure.

Whether you are looking for additional hair stimulation, or are looking to have hair surgery with the addition of PRP, OC Hair Restoration center is able to meet your needs. Although results will vary from patient to patients, PRP as a non-surgical option offers patients with miniaturization and hair thinning improvement in hair caliber and thickness.

Mesotherapy

Chances of result with Mesotherapy are 90-92% as apposed to commonly used Minoxidil (Rogaine) only 50%.

Most forms of hair loss are caused by

  • hormone imbalances in and around the hair follicle
  • a lack of the right nutrients
  • reduced blood circulation

Our mesotherapy treatment tackles exactly those 3 problems which results in a stimulation of natural hair growth and immediate stopping of hair loss.

What is Mesotherapy?

Mesotherapy is a non-invasive technique based on superficial microinjections, just below the epidermis, into the target tissues. The term «meso» is derived from the mesoderm or middle layer of the skin (approx. 1 mm deep). Mesotherapy is a treatment that stimulates the mesoderm, which relieves a wide variety of symptoms and ailments.

The solution injected can contain a wide range of minerals, vitamins, amino acids, nucleic acids and co-enzymes that can be tailored to each patient’s individual needs.

Mesotherapy for hair loss is used with great success in Europe and the United States. The treatment is virtually painless and safe when done professionally. There is no dressing or local anaesthesia required. After the treatment you can just go back to work.

Today we know that Mesotherapy is as effective or more effective than tablets in hair rejuvenation and restoration.

Mesotherapy brings just the right materials to the exact place where it is needed (around the hair follicle) so that

  • the hair follicle can grow and survive,
  • the excess of DHT (dihydrotestosterone) is neutralised and
  • the blood circulation is stimulated.

History of Mesotherapy

In 1952 Dr Michel Pistor treated the cobbler for an asthma attack with procaine, in his village of Bray et Lu. This treatment had a limited effect on the underlying disease although the patient, who had been deaf for many years, was able to hear the village bells ring again. He then thought of continuing the procaine treatment but administered next to the ear with positive results. It was from this finding that he continued a never ending quest to treat the disease from as close a point as possible. And according to his saying “a little, not very often, in the right spot”.

In 1964 the French Society of Mesotherapy was founded in Paris, with 16 members and The French Academy of Medicine recognized Mesotherapy as a Specialty of Medicine in 1987.

Popular throughout European countries and South America, Mesotherapy is practiced by approximately 40.000 physicians worldwide.

Mechanism of action of Mesotherapy

Mesotherapy employs both the physical (mechanical) and the chemical stimulation. Small doses of different medications are administered in specific areas depending on the condition being treated. They act like a medicinal bullet that is delivered directly to a target in the body.

Mechanical: The needle is creating micro perforations that induce a healing process. The posttraumatic response of the organism is to produce collagen and elastin – two of the key building blocks of skin. As there is no removal or “real” damage to existing collagen, the new formation of it simply adds to existing levels.

Chemical: The injected active ingredients will stimulate the organism. For instance, if the circulation is poor, a vasodilator is used ( ex. coumarin); if excessive inflammation is present, an anti-inflammatory medication is used (ex. organic silicon). The quality of the product, its composition regarding the indication to treat is of first importance.

Mesotherapy in hair loss

An effective time-release delivery system that can improve blood circulation, reduce inflammation, neutralize excess DHT, stimulate collagen, increase follicle size to stop hair loss and stimulate hair growth.

Active Ingredients Acetyl tetrapeptide-3 & Biochanin A

Acetyl tetrapeptide-3: alternative to Minoxidil

Reduces the inflammation process stops hair loss and stimulates the hair growth (comparative study to minoxidil) modulates DHT, stimulates the extra cellular matrix and anchoring proteins. Acetyl tetrapeptide-3 stimulates tissue remodeling and has a direct effect on the hair follicle. The remodeling signal will increase the size of hair follicle for better hair anchoring and vitality.

Biochanin A
Biochanin A is a powerful isoflavone, derived from red clover. It is a natural organic compound in the class of phytochemicals known as flavonoids. Red clover was traditionally used to treat asthma, cancer and inflammatory skin disorders such as eczema & psoriasis. Biochanin A modulates the conversion of testosterone to DHT in androgenic alopecia.

All this results in a stimulation of natural hair growth.

Chances of result with Mesotherapy are 90-92% as apposed to Minoxidil (Rogaine) only 50%.
Most forms of hair loss are caused by hormone imbalances in and around the hair follicle, a lack of the right nutrients and reduced blood circulation.

The Treatment

The treatment itself takes between 10 and 30 minutes depending on the extension of the area being treated.

Usually a minimum of 10 sessions is required to stimulate hair growth. We recommend starting with an intensive course of treatments every 2 weeks for the first 2-3 months. The frequency then gradually decreases and the results of hair rejuvenation become evident already after 2-3 months. In order to keep the results maintenance treatments are needed generally once every 2 to 3 months.

Stem Cell Hair Loss

Why Stem Cells?

Stem cells are tiny progenitor cells found in our body that can divide (through mitosis) and change (differentiate) into various cell types. All cells in our body are constantly dividing where new cells are formed, then cells age and die. It is a natural physiologic process of programmed cell death and is known as Apoptosis. Your stem cells are your body’s natural healing cells and can act as your repair system in your body by replenishing adult tissues. They are the source of all these cells that have died.

There are two broad types of stem cells: embryonic stem cells, which are isolated from the inner cell mass of blastocyst (early stage of embryo), and non-embryonic or adult stem cells. It is also referred to as mesenchymal stem cells MSCs and is found in various tissues. There are three accessible sources of autologous adult stem cells in humans:

  • Bone marrow, which requires extraction by drilling into the bone (typically the femur or iliac crest).
  • Blood, which requires extraction through pheresis, wherein blood is drawn from the donor (similar to a blood donation), passed through a machine that extracts the stem cells and returns other portions of the blood to the donor.
  • Adipose tissue (Fat cells), which requires extraction by liposuction.

Stem cells can also be taken from umbilical cord blood just after birth. Of all stem cell types, autologous harvesting (cells are obtained from one’s own body) from Adipose tissue (Fat cells) involves the least risk. Adipose tissue (fat cells) is one of the richest sources of MSCs. When compared to bone marrow, there are more than 500 times more stem cells in 1 gram of fat when compared to 1 gram of aspirated bone marrow.

Soleen Lebanese beauty center has the technology to extract stem cells from your fat cells. Under investigational protocols, these cells can be deployed to treat a number of degenerative conditions and diseases. NESCTC in collaboration with Soleen Lebanese beauty center is pioneering deploying stem cells to treat thinning hair and hair loss.

Baldness

Hair follicles also contain stem cells, and some researchers predict research on these follicle stem cells may lead to successes in treating baldness through an activation of the stem cells progenitor cells. This therapy is expected to work by activating already existing stem cells on the scalp. Later therapy may be able to simply signal follicle stem cells to give off chemical signals to nearby follicle cells which have shrunk during the aging process, which in turn respond to these signals by regenerating and once again making healthy hair. Most recently, Dr. Aeron Potter of the University of California has claimed that stem-cell therapy led to a significant and visible improvement in follicular hair growth.

How do you grow hair follicles from stem cells?

Mesenchymal stem cells or MSCs are multipotent stromal cells that can differentitate into a variety of cell types including: osteoblasts (bone cells), chondrocytes (cartilage),  connective tissues and adipocytes (fat cells). Hair follicle papilla, which is a large structure at the base of the hair follicle bulb, is made up mainly of connective tissue and a capillary loop. (See hair follicle illustration). Since it is mainly connective tissue, mesenchymal stem cells could play a role in the repair and regenesis of the hair follicle papilla. Another point to consider is that the hair follicle develops mainly from the dermis and is mesodermal in origin. In Mesenchymal stem cells are also mesodermal in origin. Furthermore, there is tight ectodermal and mesodermal interaction involve in hair follicle development.

Discoveries in recent years have suggested that adult stem cells might have the ability to differentiate into cell types from different germ layers. For instance, neural stem cells from the brain, which are derived from ectoderm, can differentiate into ectoderm, mesoderm, and endoderm. Stem cells from the bone marrow, which is derived from mesoderm, can differentiate into liver, lung, GI tract and skin, which are derived from endoderm and mesoderm. This phenomenon is referred to as stem cell transdifferentiation or plasticity.

OUR TECHNOLOGY

Soleen Lebanese beauty center , an affiliate of the Cell Surgical Network , uses adipose derived stem cells, commonly known as Stromal Vascular Fraction (SVF) and non embryonic/adult mesenchymal stem cells, for deployment & clinical research.. Early stem cell research has traditionally been associated with the controversial use of embryonic stem cells. The new focus is on non-embryonic adult mesenchymal stem cells, which are found in a person’s own blood, bone marrow, and fat.  Most stem cell treatment centers in the world are currently using stem cells derived from bone marrow.

A recent technological breakthrough enables us to now use adipose (fat) derived stem cells. The procedure entails performing a mini-liposuction (around 50 mL of fat tissue) from the lower abdomen or from the belly under local anesthesia. Mesenchymal stem cells are then extracted from the adipose tissues, which are then incubated. The resulting lipoaspirate are either injected directly into areas concerned or injected directly intravenously.

Autologous stem cells from a person’s own fat are easy to harvest safely under local anesthesia and are abundant in quantities which are up to 500 times those seen in bone marrow. Clinical success and favorable outcomes appear to be related directly to the quantity of stem cells deployed. Once these adipose derived stem cells are administered back in to the patient, they have the potential to repair human tissue by forming new cells of mesenchymal origin, such as connective tissues, cartilage, bone, ligaments, tendons, hair follicles, nerve, fat, muscle, blood vessels, and certain internal organs.
